Social Settings

Social Settings are used to:

  • Define social media profile links for Google’s Knowledge Graph,
  • Fallback image options when visitors share your web site Pages and Posts on social networks.

In the WordPress Administration interface, click on WP Simple SEO > Social

Can’t see the Social settings option in the WordPress Administration menu? You need to complete the First Time Configuration steps first.

General

The General tab allows you to enable or disable social metadata.

  • Enable Social Metadata?: If enabled, outputs metadata / open graph data for use when your Posts, Pages, Custom Post Types etc. are shared on social networks. Also outputs metadata for Google’s Knowledge Graph.

Profiles

The Profiles tab allows you to define your social media profile links. These will be used both when your content is shared by users on social networks, and by Google’s Knowledge Graph.

  • Facebook Page URL: The URL to your web site’s Facebook page.
  • Twitter Profile URL: The URL to your web site’s Twitter page.
  • Google+ URL: The URL to your web site’s Google+ page.
  • Instagram URL: The URL to your web site’s Instagram page.
  • YouTube URL: The URL to your web site’s YouTube page.
  • LinkedIn URL: The URL to your web site’s LinkedIn page.
  • MySpace URL: The URL to your web site’s MySpace page.
  • Pinterest URL: The URL to your web site’s Pinterest page.
  • SoundCloud URL: The URL to your web site’s SoundCloud page.
  • Tumblr URL: The URL to your web site’s Tumblr page.

Open Graph

The Open Graph tab allows you to define your Open Graph metadata.  This is used by Facebook, Pinterest and some smaller social networks.

By default, WP Simple SEO will populate this information automatically.  However, there are some settings that you can adjust:

  • Default Image: If a specific Page, Post or Custom Post Type does not have a Featured Images, or any image(s) in the content, this Default Image will be used.  To define it:
    • Click Change Default Image
    • Select an existing image, and click Select

    • Alternatively, upload the image from your computer by clicking on Upload Files and then Select Files, before clicking the Select button

Twitter

The Twitter tab allows you to define how content is displayed when a URL on your web site is shared on Twitter:

  • Card Type:
    • Summary Card: Displays a summary card with a title and description:
